Is There A Tweet In Your Future?

Author: Karen McGreevey
31.05.2010

You may be one of the many who have taken on the social networks as marketing tools for your business.

And in doing so, you have decided to use Twitter. But now you’re “dressed up with an account” and “don’t know where to go” or how to begin.

So you stare blankly at your Twitter page.

What should you tweet about?

You have 140 characters to work with, and while that seems easy, it can prove more difficult to come up with a post of value in 140 characters or less. You want to draw your audience in, but the question then becomes how.

What should you share with your followers? Just what is it your audience, your followers want to see?

Well, for starters, they want great conversation. So give them a statement worth wanting to reply to.

Your audience wants to get to know you–the person behind the tweets. So give them the opportunity to get to know you–your personality–as well as your company and your services.

They want links to great sites, or videos or information. If you find these things relevant and useful, chances are someone else will appreciate your resource as well.

Your followers will want a tweet worthy of sharing with their own followers.

Whether that comes in the form of a particularly humorous quip or a great article you have read, give them something they can retweet.

And in the process, while you want to engage your followers, they will want to engage you, as well.

Don’t be afraid to jump in and get involved yourself. Join in on the conversations, thank a fellow Twitterer for sharing a resource that you found helpful.

And don’t hesitate to retweet their posts, either.

Don’t ask anything of your audience that you are not willing to give yourself. If you are afraid to take your social networking to the next level, don’t expect that others will find you approachable and worthy of their time and effort.

Give them what they want and you will find that what you get in return will be invaluable to you and your business.

Okay, that’s usually known as “The Fine Line between Love and Hate.”

But for purposes here, you, as a business owner “in the know” who takes advantage of Internet marketing, realize there is a fine line between “marketing” and “spam”.

And so, you orchestrate your marketing campaigns to get the maximum amount of exposure without running the risk of having your efforts being viewed as spam.

Message boards are ideal for Internet marketing

This is because these boards can provide you with access to a specialized target audience. For instance, if you are in the business of finding jobs for employees who wish to telecommute, you might find people who may be interested in your services if you join a message board that’s dedicated to working from home.

Also, as a frequent visitor to such boards, you can learn a great deal about the things that concern your target audience. In fact, when appropriate and in accordance with the board guidelines, you might even occasionally and discretely take the opportunity to post links to your Web site. Sometimes boards allow you to do this by letting you include your link in your signature line.

This is smart Internet marketing

However, if you opt to respond willy-nilly to each and every post with a link to your Web site even when your site is not relevant and your post isn’t either, and if you do not offer comments of value to other members, they are likely to view your posts as spam!

This is unfortunate on so many levels because because the members may decide to avoid your Web site, even as they “cut off their nose to spite their face” when in truth, they really do have a need for your services.

If you’ve searched the Internet as much as I have, you’ve probably noticed there are some very successful Internet Marketers that are well known in their field–and across the web in general.

As an Internet and Article Marketer, you want to be noticed as well.

So how do you do it? For starters, you’ll want to become an authority in your niche.

You will find that when you become successful with your “new-found web notoriety” Web site owners will actively come seeking your articles. They’ll also be more than happy to publish your articles for you, rather than having their readers stumble upon your articles by chance.

So get your name out there by submitting your articles to article directories.

But, “don’t just put all your eggs in one basket” by relying solely on putting your articles up at article directories.

There are other methods you might try to gain visibility; for instance, take steps to become involved in the online community that relates to your field.

Also, post helpful replies on forums, or comment on articles in blogs.

By doing so, you may see an opportunity to include a link to your site. However, only include your site link if it is helpful, relevant and acceptable for that Web site. I speak from experience, as I clear out my blog spam comments area often, deleting many that make absolutely no sense to the focus of my blog.

Also, do you already have your own blog? If not, you can quickly set up your own.

Then, since you are now already writing articles, you can put them on your blog. Not only that, you can also add blog posts that include your thoughts, comments or smaller snippets of news when you want.

If you consistently practice some of these online community strategies in this way, you’ll find that you can’t help but see an increase in traffic to your Web site.

When you write an article for your Web site or are considering getting one from an article bank, make sure that it is a length that is optimal for search engine optimization (SEO) efforts.

For instance, articles that are as short as 200 words or as long as 500 words should fit into this category. And even if search engine optimization is not your goal, it is still a good idea to keep your articles at this length for the sake of your readers.

Especially, because they are likely to not finish reading your page if it is any longer!

As a result of them “clicking away” then, they could be left with only half of the information you wanted them to have. Or, it may leave them with the impression that your site is a little on the “wordy” side!

Most Internet readers do not read a Web site page as they would a book, so the shorter the page, the better!

Even if this means you have to break one long idea into 4 or 5 pages or articles.

Also, be sure to label your pages so your reader can easily pick and choose which part(s) he or she wants to read.

Or at least so your reader knows what is coming next; it will help your reader determine whether to continue reading.

When you’re marketing your articles, one of the things you’ll want to do is maximize your promotional opportunities.

For instance, you probably already know your articles can help you get additional links back to your site.

But did you know you can get more visitors and better search engine results from that same article?

One of the ways to do this is by mentioning keywords at strategic places.

But make sure not to overdo it.

Some marketers will use anchor text, which is also an effective method. But mainly it is important to know that the majority of the directories are not able to support this.

Also, remember that it’s not just about the links back to your site.

In fact, part of doing well in your article marketing is getting picked up by publishers with a large number of audiences and being able to gain the ability to leverage other brands because of the quality of your work. As a result, better search engine results are also of great benefit.

Unfortunately, many of these things do not put much money in your pocket.

There are other factors that can turn your article marketing efforts into an opportunity that can boost your earnings.

And not just increase the number of visitors that come by your site.

So start with a plan, and make it a point to assure that your article will serve the function you originally intended it to have.

eZine Format Decisions

Author: Karen McGreevey
05.05.2010

In today’s Internet age, more and more those who publish ezines may use one or more of the 3 most commonly used formats for putting out an eZine.

Although there are three usual formats, you can decide which format is the best choice for you. Keeping in mind, though, that each winning format has its pros and cons.

For instance, the text eZine is the most commonly published! The advantage with this format is it requires no special skill to use a Word or Notepad program. Other than your writing.

Then, while the HTML eZine format requires a certain degree of HTML skills on your part, it does allow you to add more sophisticated features to your eZine issues. Thus making your eZines more appealing to your subscriber and having the potential to increase your value to your readership, as a result. This is something text eZines do not do.

Further, with an eZine format, you can “decorate” your eZine, change your fonts, include photos, clip art, and more. However, the drawback often faced by an HTML eZine user is that the HTML eZine often gets trapped in a spam filter before it reaches its intended subscriber’s inbox.

And then there’s the third and least used format among the 3, which is the PDF eZine. Partly because publishing your eZine in PDF format can be very time consuming and because it uses a lot of effort on your part to get it all put together. But it is one way to make up for in quality readership.

Because of the commitment to time and effort, PDF eZines are usually published monthly. The great thing with the PDF eZine, though, is you can add your affiliate links into your PDF eZine issue, and you can allow your subscribers to spread your eZine around.

Although there are three choices, you do not necessarily have to choose one eZine format over another, as some eZine publishers today are known to publish in more than one format.
